Cool Sites
Mostly a resource for myself, but I think it could also be useful to other people, so I'm making a list of random sites I find helpful for certain tasks or just entertaining.
General Use:
Internet Archive: Feel like most people know of it already, but it's still a very important and useful site: It has an gigantic collection of movies, books, texts, software and others, all for free!
Wayback Machine: Part of the Internet Archive, and maybe even more important than it: You can search the URL of sites and find older versions of them, and also use it to access deleted sites.
Cobalt: Site to download videos and audios! Just need to copy and paste a link from the site and it downloads for you.
Elipsus: An good site for people who want to write stories: it’s a Google Docs substitute that has all their features, plus a few exclusive to it.
Character Design References: A good resource for concept art from famous animated movies and TV shows, plus a lot of cool art for various artists!
Postimages: A place to upload and host images online.
FotoForensics and TinEye: Other options for sites to help you find the origin of pictures online besides Google Images, plus FotoForensics lets you see edits made to the image.
Font Meme: Mostly for titles instead of longer writing, but you can find the font used for a lot of famous things here!
The Spriters Resource: A site where people rip and post sprites from all kinds of games, plus a lot of backgrounds and other visual elements.
Just for Fun:
Legends of Localization: Teaches about translation and localization of japanese to english, plus a little about the japanese language; mostly games, but you'll find articles about some movies too.
My Figure Collection: Site where you can see figurines and some other merch for japanese series, games, etc, plus look at people’s collections!
Letterboxd: Pretty well known, but still useful: here you can mark movies/shorts/miniseries you have seen, plus look at people’s reviews and lists (though I mostly just use it to catalogue all movies I’ve seen).
BeepBox: A site to make simple music for free on the browser! It's a little confusing at first but I think it’s a good first introduction.
Internet Artifacts: A site that shows some important moments in the history of the internet in a fun interactive way.
Wiki-Like Sites:
BreezeWiki: Site that allows you to access Fandom Wiki sites without all the ads and annoying things all over it!
Fanlore: Site where you can read about the history/”lore” of fandoms, and find some notable fanworks and resources! I’m an editor there!
The Cutting Room Floor: Another super well known site, but still great: has information about the beta version of games, and also anything interesting left in their code.
Kanzenshuu: Probably the best place to find information about the Dragon Ball series! Highlights include their rumours guide, that clear out a bunch of misconceptions about the series, and a great number of translated interviews with Akira Toriyama.
Dogasu's Backpack: Very informative site about the Pokemon series! Showcases the changes made in the english dub of the anime, a lot of good interviews, an rumours guide and a lot more good info!
GrnRngr.com: Site with a lot of information about the Power Rangers and Super Sentai series, including all the special footage that was made in Japan just for PR to use (known as the Zyu2 footage) and a bunch of archived versions of fan sites from the 90s!
